There is a free version of Screencast-o-matic and a Pro version that UAA has licensing for. Free version can be found HERE for anyone interested.

Once the software is installed on your computer, launch it and you will see this opening screen with previous recordings and a few options at the top right of the screen.
This is where Screencast-o-Matic will save your videos as you create them for later use and editing. When your ready to record your screen select the red Record button at the top right. This will minimize the black folder screen and open the SOM marque you can see in the image below with the following settings before you start. The first Screen button is if you chose to record just what is on your computer screen, the second Webcam option is to record just what the webcam on your computer sees (if you have a webcam). The final Both option allows you to record your screen and a small version of your webcam at the same time.
The Microphone Icon is to test your levels of your mic built into your computer/webcam so speak loudly and make sure the Volume level bars are moving (the farther to the right the louder your recording will be). The size option determines the overall size of your recording based on the resolution of your screen (SUGGESTION do not use larger then the 720 option for embedding reasons when using in an LMS such as BlackBoard)
When all settings are ready click the red Rec button and you will get a 3, 2, 1 countdown and then you are live. Everything you say or do on your screen will be captured until you re-select that same Rec button to pause the recording. You do have the ability to pause at any time and start again if needed. When you hit the Pause button you will see the options in the image below
If you want to continue recording do so by selecting the Rec button again, but if you are finished, select the Done option. That will take you a new screen where you have the ability to save, edit or delete your current recording.
There will be a later tutorial on the Editing within SOM, but for our sake we are just going to publish out a final video. Select the save as Video File button.
When that is selected you will see the options below. They only two setting you should change are the Filename if you want to name it something more useful for your class, and the Folder option if you would like to save this published video anywhere other then the desktop of the computer you are on.
When ready hit publish, you will get a progress bar telling you when the video will be finished and do not exit out of the software. The time it will take to finalize will depend on how long your video capture is, but this software is very fast and should only take a few minutes. When done you will have a perfect screen capture ready to be used in any situation you need.
