Welcome to “EduTips”

Hi Everyone!  I facilitated a Blackboard SP13 updates bootcamp session and one of my favorite features is the new Video Everywhere tool, which allows BB users to add video of themselves directly within Blackboard.  However, it also allows a really great way to add videos already in your YouTube Channel.  Here’s how (with some bonus content!)

Step 1: Login and access upload screen

Upload a video to your YouTube Channel.  You might be thinking you don’t have a YouTube login, but if you have a google account (such as Gmail), your YouTube login is the same!  Once your in, click on the Upload button.

Step 2 (optional): Increase 15 minute upload limit

YouTube has a limit of 15 minutes by default, but you can easily and instantaneously expand this.  When your are on the upload screen, follow the prompts to increase the limit, if you would like.

Step 3: Upload video and select privacy settings

Select files to upload and change your privacy setting for the video, if you would like something other than public.  I usually suggest unlisted.  You can find out more about privacy settings here.  Once you click upload and it is processing, YouTube will bring you to a page to add information, but it’s all optional.

Step 4: View uploads in Video Manager

You should receive a confirmation that the video has been successfully uploaded, and you can always view it in your video manager in YouTube.  Just click on the arrow in the top right of the screen (next to your username) and select Video Manager to see all your uploads.  Note that it may take a few minutes for larger videos to be ready for playback.

Step 5: Access the Video Everywhere Tool in Blackboard

Once your video is in your video manager, navigate to the area of your course that you would like to embed a video.  For example, navigate to Week 2 Lesson and add or edit an item.  Basically, you can do this anywhere you see the text editor.  From there, choose the Video Everywhere icon, it’s the one on the lower left that looks like a webcam.

Step 6: Use Video Everywhere to find everything in your YouTube Channel

Choose the “browse” tab.  You may be prompted to login to YouTube and grant access.  Once you’ve done that, You’ll see a full list of everything in your YouTube Channel.
